Day 2 series is laden with fanservice and has a harem structure so that might turn off some right off the bat. Sometimes that can be really annoying because a show might not try to be more than that, but this series perhaps took the best choice by making it a comedy.

And it was pretty amusing. The absurdity to the concept is what makes it hilarious, that this average slacker boy monk becomes a phenomenal super monk when he glimpses female nudity, which inevitably has to happen at some point in the episode when the group is faced with some phantom/ghost that needs to be exorcised.

Then throw in that the leader of the temple is the boy’s grandma who he exchanges insults with all the time and she sends him on ridiculous errands and is one of those tiny, yet powerful characters.

Not much substance but I’d finish it if I had the time. Only 13 eps.

Day 1 brought this slice of life/mystery/sci-fi series that never really got started even after 3 episodes. From the wiki there are two big story arcs consisting of 12 episodes each and 1/4 through the first probably could have been condensed into one with what little story development occurred.

Yes the show was hinting at some mysterious machinations going on in this little town between this spirit that to some is a sumo wrestler, or an angry girl to others and a cat to this one dude on a motor bike. And something to do with fireflies. And this child spirit that knows the main character for some reason and lastly the main character has no memory of the last time he was in that town when he was much younger.

So there is some intrigue but all of that is layered in this lackluster presentation of drawn out storytelling, monotone conversations and very minimal awkward interactions. The show even says the town is boring and it does its damn best to prove it.

The last episode introduced a young spunky reporter that is interested in investigating the stories surrounding the town and she might be a way to inject some energy into the show but with how the main character seemed to react to her it will probably be a slow going development and not enough to keep me coming back unfortunately.
